to perform, and even their duties do not normally

include domiciliary visits at such hours, I would

further add to my original statement that during

the year I have to read through some tens of thousands

of examination papers, a great part of this work being

done in the late evening, and during the summer vaca-

tion months when the members of the Teaching Staff of

the Department have left the Colony for health resorts

in the north.

I beg finally to be permitted to draw atten-

tion to the summary presented on pages 4 and 5 of my

original letter attached, and to request that as I

have held for over seven years a post senior to the

Head Mastership, a post which requires a wider knowledge

of education, which calls for at least twice the amount

of duty and to which precedent assigns a higner salary,

my salary may be increased in due proportion, and that

instead of receiving as at present £900 per annum,

with

£120 (non-pensionable) as Director of the Technical

Institute, I be permitted to draw £1200 for the two

posts of Inspector of Schools and Director of the

Technical Institute.

I have the honour to be,

sir.

Your most humble & obedient servant,

&Kaiphs.

Inspector of English Schools

and Director of the Technical Institute.
